J. William Kinard, Jr. FAHP

Bill is a native of Clinton, SC – a small, rural town of about 8,000 – in Upstate South Carolina. Bill received his Bachelor of Science degree in biology with an emphasis on pre-med studies in 1990 from Presbyterian College. After graduating, Bill began work in a local, family-owned bank – MS Bailey and Sons, Bankers. in 1994, Bill began his 25-year career in the nonprofit sector with his alma mater Presbyterian College. Since then he has served in both academia and healthcare – large and small. One of his proudest terms of service was in the founding of St. Joseph’s Catholic School. Bill began his work in healthcare in 2000 having since served with Bon Secours, Prisma Health (formerly Greenville Health System) and Mission Health. In his latest role with Mission Health, Bill served as Senior Vice President for Philanthropy and President of Mission Health System Foundation since 2013.

In 2008, Bill earned the highest certification, Fellow, in the Association of Healthcare Philanthropy. Representing fewer than 2% of AHP members, the FAHP is awarded to those who demonstrate professional excellence and a commitment to healthcare philanthropy and healthcare governance.

Since January 2018, Bill has been actively engaged in establishing Dogwood Health Trust a private non-operating foundation with the sole purpose of dramatically improving the health and well-being of all people and communities of Western North Carolina. Dogwood Health Trust was established to receive the proceeds from the sale of the assets of the nonprofit Mission Health System to HCA Healthcare in January 2019.

Bill values the role of leadership in the successes of the nonprofit sector. Focusing on conscious leadership, authentic team and Enneagram, Bill’s greatest joy is in building relationships and teams that foster success. Bill completed the Leadership Trust in 2003 then at WFU School of Business. Bill also appreciates and urges balance in the team. In his spare time, Bill enjoys all things outdoors but especially fly fishing. Bill is married to Tina Kinard, a geriatric and family nurse practitioner who earned her doctorate in Nursing Practice in May 2019. Bill and Tina have a son Will who is a senior at TC Roberson.
