Main Street becomes Sesame Street to launch Smart Start initiative for parents, caregivers

Two iconic characters made an appearance in Hendersonville Saturday morning, Aug. 20 as part of Main Street Becomes Sesame Street!

Elmo and Abby Cadabby were at the Smart Start Sesame Street Party.

The event featured fun for the whole family, with bounce houses, food trucks, magic and more.

The party marked the launch of a free resource called "Sesame Street in Communities" in Hendersonville.

It's an initiative to support parents, caregivers and community providers in their efforts to give all children, especially the most vulnerable, a strong and healthy start.

"I love seeing the kids' faces light up when they see the characters -- when they see Elmo Abby Cadabby -- and just connecting families to the resources that our community provides to make sure ththey'reuilding a strong foundation for their young one," said Kelly Hart, program director for Smart Start Partnership for Children.

The event was organized by Smart Start Partnership for Children, with the support of Pardee and Dogwood Health Trust.

Other similar launch parties will be happening across western North Carolina soon, with Swain and Rutherford counties up next.
