Blue Ridge Health provides a robust slate of medical services to the Western North Carolina community, offering everything from medical and dental services to behavioral health, nutrition and school-based programs. Blue Ridge Health has evolved and grown over time, but its mission has remained steadfast – to provide quality healthcare that is accessible and affordable for all.
In the summer of 2020, the Boys & Girls Club served nearly 250 members. Members benefited from several programs including the summer academic support program, Brain Gain. The Boys and Girls Club prides itself in mentoring its members to do well for themselves academically and their neighbors in the community.
Today’s Transylvania Boys & Girls Club is a hub of activity with kids coming from nine area schools. The Club serves kids from kindergarten through 12th grade. They offer a host of activities to engage the kids and to promote life-long learning, from academic success programs and character development to nutrition classes and physical activity.
Burke Recovery helps adolescents and adults in Burke County with substance use prevention and treatment. They also serve the community by staffing and handling daily operations of the Burke Substance Abuse Network (BSAN), a coalition of providers, support groups, related agencies and other stakeholders who network, identify service gaps and conduct strategic planning to reduce substance misuse.
C.A.R.E. identified the Rural Communities Opioid Response – Planning grant available from the Health Resource and Services Administration. C.A.R.E. realized they would be an ideal fit, especially since they had already formed a committee and had the necessary data at the ready.
The Community Table works to solve immediate hunger needs in Jackson County. They serve hot meals daily, offer a free table with excess bread and produce and stock a food pantry where clients can get a supplemental box of groceries twice a month.
Through its flagship publication, Hola Carolina magazine, the organization shares critical information and news for Spanish-speaking communities in ten WNC counties. Hola also operates programs that celebrate cultural diversity with educational and outreach activities through Hola Community Arts.
