A program that's helping students navigate COVID-19 on campus is back at six colleges in Western North Carolina, including UNC Asheville.

Dogwood Health Trust is helping fund the Student Health Ambassadors program that employs about 50 students. It's designed to help protect students from the virus and make sure they're OK as they deal with the changes brought on by the pandemic.

"They help with vaccine clinics, they'll be helping with a faculty and staff flu clinic, provide support for students through virtual and in-person gatherings and provide other opportunities for students to learn about COVID-19," UNCA Healthy Campus liaison Jordan Perry said.

And the program is working. UNCA had the lowest rate of prevalence of COVID-19 in the UNC system at the end of the fall semester.
