Western North Carolina Community Health Services expands affordable healthcare options in WNC with the opening of the Hominy Valley Health Center in Candler

Press release via WNCCHS

Western North Carolina Community Health Services (WNCCHS)  announces plans to open the  Hominy Valley Health Center in early May. The health center site will be co-located at the Hominy Valley Crisis Center operated by Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry. Currently more than 1,300 WNCCHS patients live in the Candler area, and the new site should make it much more convenient for many of them to obtain health care closer to home and will also increase access to care for others who live in the area. This expansion of WNCCHS model of affordable, integrated, community health care will give more options to more Buncombe County residents. The Hominy Valley Health Center was made possible by the generous support of the Dogwood Health Trust.

“Dogwood Health Trust’s grant will increase our capacity to serve an additional 500 patients which is an increase of more than 20%. By supporting the Hominy Valley Health Center,  Dogwood Health Trust is helping us provide high quality, affordable health access in the Candler community.  We are grateful for Dogwood’s commitment.”- Kim Wagenaar,  Chief Executive Officer, WNCCHS

“Dogwood’s purpose is to dramatically improve the health and wellbeing of all people and communities in Western North Carolina. Part of that work includes increasing access to high-quality, culturally appropriate, whole-person care – especially for historically under resourced populations. Health centers like WNCCHS are incredibly valuable partner.” – Dr. Susan Mims, interim CEO at Dogwood Health Trust

“Having collaborated with WNC Community Health Services for over 20 years, ABCCM is honored to have them co-locate their clinic services in Enka-Candler at the ABCCM Hominy Valley Crisis Ministry.  A survey in 2010 showed that 1 in 3 families asking for food also had health care needs.  Most were underinsured or uninsured and needed access to medical, dental, pharmacy and mental health care.  We are thrilled to have WNC Community Health services bring this broad array of services to our community.” – Scott Rogers, Executive Director, ABCCM
