Yancey County Receives $600,000 from Dogwood Health

PRESS RELEASE:

On November 10, 2021 Yancey County signed a $ 600,000 grant agreement with Dogwood Health Trust. This grant will go to support planning activities undertaken by Yancey County Government in anticipation of a pending class action litigation which will provide funding to address the negative impacts of substance misuse in our community.

This  planning process will include:  community feedback through a guided facilitation process, a comprehensive, data-driven needs assessment, coordinating channels of communication between local government and partner agencies (such as healthcare clinics and community nonprofits) who are presently pursuing initiatives addressing substance abuse and misuse in the community, and a workforce development/capacity building component which would focus on targeted training and education to prepare those agencies ultimately responsible for rolling out the initiatives.

“This will help prepare Yancey County for future efforts in the fight against substance abuse. We look forward to these funds making a difference in our citizen’s health and wellbeing” stated Chairman, Jeff Whitson.

The Yancey County Commissioners are pleased that the county has been awarded these funds from the Dogwood Health Trust and they are looking forward to the planning process beginning.
