2026 Independent Monitor Community Meetings Offer Updates and Connections

Dogwood Health Trust and Affiliated Monitors, Inc., in its role as the Independent Monitor (IM), held two community meetings this week in Brevard and Asheville. Each meeting shared updates about the IM’s work and information about where community members can share feedback about their experiences with the HCA Mission Health System (HCA).

The IM is responsible for monitoring and evaluating HCA’s compliance with its commitments required by the 2019 Asset Purchase Agreement of the Mission Health System. More than 150 people attended to learn about the findings of the 2024 reporting year and details about the current monitoring process for the 2025 report, which will be released later this year.

IM representatives and Lee J. Miller, deputy general counsel for the Office of the Secretary of the NC Department of Health and Human Services, presented at both meetings. Afterward, community members connected directly with the IM and representatives from the HCA Mission Health System, the NC Attorney General’s office, and the NC Department of Health and Human Services.

A recording of the Asheville meeting is available below.

These meetings are part of the IM’s broader, ongoing community engagement strategy. So far this year, the IM has conducted outreach to key stakeholders, engaged with members of the health care community, and met with seller representatives from the six HCA hospital advisory boards.

The IM is actively scheduling one-on-one and small-group meetings in May 2026. They welcome connections with civic groups, organizations and community members who want to share feedback about their experiences with HCA and the Mission Health System.
