Tom Maher

For the past 30 years, Tom Maher has dedicated himself to creating opportunities for growth and success by engaging with and supporting a variety of nonprofit organizations.

As an education advocate, he has supported schools and provided scholarships in New England, New York and Western North Carolina for the past 14 years. More recently, he expanded his efforts by helping establish a Holocaust Studies Program at his high school in New York City. Through these efforts, he’s witnessed firsthand the transformative power of education.

“Everyone needs and deserves opportunities to reach their potential, and education opens the door to many avenues for advancement and growth.”

Tom is president of Pisgah Investments Foundation, a private foundation focused on food insecurity, mental health and opportunities for underserved youth in Western North Carolina and Charleston, South Carolina. He is grateful for the numerous partnerships with nonprofit organizations that have a significant impact on families and communities in the region.

He serves on several boards in Asheville and has long utilized his finance, investment and real estate expertise for the betterment of the nonprofit community. His portfolio management experience has helped support many nonprofits in their respective financial growth.

Prior to locating to Western North Carolina, he was the partner overseeing day-to-day operations and Chief Financial Officer for Eastern Development LLC, a privately owned Massachusetts-based real estate investment and development company with projects throughout New England. He was a founding board member of two schools, Esperanza Academy in Lawrence, Massachusetts, and Beverly School of Kenya. Prior to his real estate development career, Tom spent a dozen years in real estate finance in New York and Boston. He lives in Asheville with his wife Nancy, and he is the proud father of two adult children living in the Carolinas.

“I am grateful to join the Dogwood Health Trust Board and be part of an organization dedicated to the health and wellness of all Western North Carolina residents. This community cares deeply about each other, and I look forward to helping to address the immediate challenges facing our region, while helping build long-term creative solutions that will help generations to come.”
