The Jackson County Board of Commissioners has approved an increase in the scope of construction and budget for a proposed domestic violence shelter.
The requested change was presented to the Board at its April 11 work session by county Manager Don Adams. Commissioners unanimously approved the amendments at the April 18 regular meeting.
During planning it became clear that more space would be needed for the shelter, Adams told the board.
Adding additional square footage to the shelter consequently increased the price tag.
The project has been actively in the works since 2021.
In August 2021, the previous Board of Commissioners voted to apply for a 50/50 matching grant from Dogwood Health Trust to meet the need. The county was awarded the $2,111,998 grant to construct the shelter.
